Molly

Molly came back down for a weekend early Oct of 2006.  She had changed!  My girl that was so intense on point and hunted so well the previous season hit the field and started blinking birds.  With the scent she would turn the other way and run.  Of course this just blew my mind and I had to ask what happened since I had seen her last.  Come to find out she had one session with another trainer that forced her to do something with the birds that she did not like.  This broke her down to the point that she now blinked the birds.  Just putting a check cord on her and stopping her one time from chasing a bird last year shut her down and it took taking it off and four more birds to get her back.  After two days in the field with her this Oct. and several birds, me chasing them with her and getting her really excited finally started to bring her back to what I had seen a year ago.  During the final session on day two, she did not blink a single bird and had caught a few and carried them around.  Here are a couple of the pics from her return weekend.

Molly and Jack came down from NC to spend a day in the field the last weekend in October 2005.  Jack got to play and was real excited about the birds.  He chased them around for a while and then ended up with a belly ache from drinking to much.  Molly had some exposure before coming down and it showed.  We got her steadied up a little while here, shot some birds for her and she did well.  She was very intense on point and it shows in the pictures below.

Jack

Jack has come to stay with me for a month through September of 2006 to try and get him steady to wing and shot for an October trip to ND for pheasant.  He is coming along on his training but like so many Weimaraners they can not be pushed to quickly or they will shut down.  The yard work with pigeons has paid off for our first weekend on quail and he held steady on a couple through the shot.  The high temps did not allow me to accomplish as much as I would have liked.  He would almost always hold steady to wing and shot the weekend Dave and Debbie came to see him work and take him home.  His intensity on point is lacking and should come around with more bird exposure.  He has been a joy to have stay as he is very good with the kids and other dogs.  Not one to like his feet wiped off at the door though.  Here are some pics from his recent stay.

We first worked with pigeons and pretty much got him steady to wing and shot.  Jack was always good with the retrieve to hand.

Then Faye would not bring the bird back and Hailey tried but was a little unsure as to how to handle that at 14 weeks so Jack got to go for a swim and came through as I knew he would.  Then a couple more times just for fun.

In the quail field he did well and the shots bellow show a couple nice points and a retrieve to hand.

Here is a good sequence showing Jack's steadiness with a bird under his nose and off my leg.

These couple pics were from his first visit last season where we introduced him to the birds.  His day was short lived as a young pup who drank water too quickly and ended up with an upset tummy.
