Training
Training begins the day you bring your puppy home. That does
not mean you take them out to the field immediately. Bring them in and make them
a part of your family. Socialize them by taking them to a park or your child's
school. Introduce them to other dogs as well. This will help you in having a dog that gets along with others later in
life. When it does come time to take them to the field for their first bird
contact let them chase it and have fun. Training should always be fun. If
you or your puppy is not having fun in the training it is time to stop.
This is the way I look at all training no matter
the age of the dog. If we can not both have fun during the
session it is time to quit. I never push a dog to hard as this
will only cause them to shut down. Every dog has his or her
pace of learning and all are different in how they learn. What
works with one dog will not necessarily work with all.
I have had comments made about how happy all my
dogs look in the field.
That is the only way I will have it.
